Consider a range of developmental domains and influences (physical, cognitive, linguistic/language, social, emotional, moral) and identify possible developmental factors and related processes likely to have contributed to creating the case study problem.

CASE STUDY #1 Patricia teaches Year 2 at a remote school with a high percentage of Aboriginal students. It is not her first year teaching in an Aboriginal community, but it is her first year at this school. Comparing this years students with the students in her last school, she was very concerned. Id put a piece of paper in front of them and they wouldnt write. Id choose interesting books to read with them but they were more interested in paying attention to the students sitting around them. Patricia wondered, What was happening? What had gone wrong? CASE STUDY #2 Nathan is a Year 5 student attending a private catholic primary school in the inner-west of Sydney. Nathan finds it difficult to concentrate in class and typically fails to get work done on time. He is generally prepared to try out new things that his teacher suggests but rarely persists with the activities unless he is the best at completing them. When challenged, he can become defensive. His teacher is always telling him to stop calling out or making jokes in class. Nathan generally dislikes school work except group-work tasks. Among his peers, he is very popular. He tends to take the lead in his social group and organizes the groups activities at lunch. Assessment Guidelines This case study assessment task requires you to independently respond to two teaching and learning case study scenarios (to be provided). Your response should be persuasive, written in first person narrative, and consist of two equal parts (1000 words[1] for each case study). When responding to each case study scenario provided for this assessment: * Consider a range of developmental domains and influences (physical, cognitive, linguistic/language, social, emotional, moral) and identify possible developmental factors and related processes likely to have contributed to creating the case study problem. * Outline a course of action to address this problem, whether it is to re-engage the student, or modify the teachers approach to the situation. Include the beliefs, values, and experiences that inform your course of action. Integrate related research and sources of information that support the developmental factors apparent in the case description and the subsequent course of action you outline. Looking for ways to prepare? * Review the Teachers Casebook: What would you do? sections at the start of the chapters in our textbook and consider how you would respond – chapters of textbook will be provided * Review the course readings (and related materials from your other courses) * Consider how you would respond to situations you observe during INSTEP * Review the marking rubric (see course outline) * Only used the references that are provided from me
